100 Food Events in 10 Days! 

Culinary Mission Impossible - yea right :)

With an already packed September schedule I visited only the Opening Night in Jelmoli, the Vegan Collaboration with Tal Ronnen initiated by the Baur au Lac & the Closing Sunday of the Epicure in the Dolder Grand - here are my highlights!

 

Tal Ronnen at Rive Gauche for Crossroads meats our Veggies Collaboration kicked off my Food Zurich on September 8th at Lunchtime, Zürich Bürkliplatz. Fully vegan hamburgers were sold with all proceeds in favour of the Kinderspital Zürich. I didn't want to miss this chance to support two good causes and get fed in one go - so I headed to sunny Bürkliplatz together with my girlfriend, power vegan blogger & photographer Andrea Monica Hug to catch the sun and the burger. It was cool to see everyone who supported the cause and gratifying to see some of my beloved snapchat friends there too! I think its a great initiative by the Baur au Lac to support vegan friendly choices - one I hope to see being taken on by more parties in the hospitality business in future. 

 

 FOOD ZURICH 2016 Opening Night at Jelmoli - What a spectacular event! Starting out with a Food Tram at Bellevue (first time I ever went on one of those cute things) which took us straight to Rennweg where we exited to see a huge crowd gathering in front of Jelmoli waiting to enter into the fine food department that was transformed into a spectacular food venue. It was estranging to see my frequently visited 'to go to' shop for fine food and specialties being host to such a great crowd of culinary afficionados. I tasted myself through an immense variety of dishes and I am sure that I missed half of them. Highlight was definitely a vegetarian seitan jerkey pike created by Hiltl. I believe I had a minimum of three. Was also fantastic to see the Chef's and their Teams from the Widder Hotel, Baur au Lac and the Dolder and to enjoy all the variety of creations. Everyone was there of course - it was a bit hard to even eat in between all the hi's hugs and kisses. But I left home happy and full - Food is Social - & the FOOD ZURICH opening night hit that message perfectly! 

 

EPICURE FINAL at the Dolder Grand - most probably the best Gourmet Event in Switzerland. 'Resident' Chef of the Dolder Grand Heiko Nieder invented this spectacular and highly exclusive culinary event a few years back and it has since grown to a massive scale. Impossible to count the number of Michelin Stars that have been summoned to the Dolder for a period of a 4 Days - I think that only on the closing night it was something around 18! Thats intense to experience all in one afternoon. From the moment I stepped in at 1400 being greeted directly with a glass of Dom Perignon to the very last bite of heavely delicious Beeler Cheese with my Espresso and being greeted by my Car being valetted directly to the doorstep - this Event is one of a kind. Hard to pick from all the chef's creations a few favourite ones but I'll try. Besides having the first tender grilled deer by the host Heiko Nieder himself I really enjoyed a light pike perch creation by the young star chef who uses only swiss ingredients Nenad Mlinarevic. The big surprise of the day was the greek guest team Georgianna Hiliadaki and Nikos Roussos who created a Bottarga (fish egg paste) on butter & homemade sourdough cracker topped with lime and a coin of white chocolate: it was an Umami experience of the finest. I ate it and I just didn't want the flavour experience to end. It was incredible - those moments of eating something and knowing that the taste will stay on my mind for a long time to follow.
