The entrance to Georges place runs around the side of Zurichs Casino, right by the running waters of the Limmat. The private elevator takes us straight to the top floor - with doors opening themselves to the most stunning, ricidulously spacious, elegant but refinedly furbished Penthouse in town. Past coatracks, books, entrance sitting chairs & benches - like the ones you want to sit down on to take your shoes off - right through to its 'mainstage'.
Georges place; as open as it is diversified - with guests wine & dining to your left, chatting & lounging to your right or hitting the impressive bar, located at center. To the sharp right opens a door to a terrasse for those who like to blow smoke above the rooftops of Zurich and chat, glancing at the stars every now and then. The first thing one does when entering Georges is to choose. Choose the direction of night which is still young.
The place is packed. The bar, the lounge tables, the dinner tables, the terrasse - on a Friday 9pm guests of all moods pass by to enjoy Georges hospitality - some for quick drinks, others to feed on the skills of his kitchen. Its a modern Gatsby by definition - discreet but effortlessly stylish, his place is decorated in exquisite modernity, with a touch of art deco - but minus the roar, minus the loudness, minus the compromise on quality.
Its the place to drink a dry martini, have a small starter, and enjoy a quality cut of grilled piece of meat (I had the Striploin - medium-rare), accompanied by an amazing red wine and truffled fries. Skip the dessert - have another drink, or maybe two. Watch the people. Breathe the easy livingroom athmosphere where you can just be yourself. Enjoy the state of being a favoured guest.
