Exited to be starting my new series about Places to go in Zurich - I will be showing you very different places for different occasions & preferences, but each one of them the best one at what they do.
To kick off, I'm showing you my personal favourite dinner spot
the place giving the expression 'Wine & Dine' a new meaning
COCO's Grill & Bar - Paradeplatz
FEATURES - Romantic Summer Garden Location - great grilled meat & fish maincourses - 5 Course Surprise Menu - Local supplies - Wine Cellar - Private Dining - personalized Service - a Food Experience
BEST CRUDITES IN TOWN
a bit hidden, but just 2 steps away from Zurich's Paradeplatz - when you find that right sidestreet you will see it immediately in front of you. The globe with the sailing boats floating across, the romanticly lit garden, people outside enjoying an apero - you know you found Coco.
the FOOD +++
HIGHLIGHT on the Menu are definitely the Crudités - its a fun, surprise third course. Guests receive a large basket with a wide variety of cut, raw vegs - carrots, cucumber, tomatoes, fennel, an egg, horseradish & more. The veggies are served with a home made dip, olive oil & a pot of fleur de sel - so healthy & wonderful - it is the course that I look most forward to every time I visit.
There is no Menucard at Coco's - instead Guests are spoiled with 5 surprise courses which change weekly. It is possible to choose between fish or meat main course (grilled) and one can place any intolerancies or preferences with the order.
I enjoyed an appetizer of local dried meats, large plump green olives and tasteful sicilian dried tomatoes with delicately toasted bread. The dinner menu itself opens with a fish starter, followed by a meat starter, the famous crudités & for main course I got the "foiver unds weggli" Surf n Turf comprised of Black Angus Beef Filet and grilled giant Scampi - AMAZING!
Tipp for Foodies: if you love to eat beef filets rare - Coco's is a must try! I got the rarest piece of filet that I ever ate, with a colour so intense, it was close to that of beetroot.
The sweet finish was a fine chocolate tart with passionfruit sorbet topped by colourful smarties - LOVED it :D
Coco's has a smaller menu version offered for Lunching - with adapt prices varying from CHF 25 to 42 for a full lunch menu.
the WINE +++
Outstanding is the Wine Cellar - because, as there is no Food Menu, there is also no Wine Card! Instead guests are led to the Wine Cellar where they are personally advised by Marcel the Sommelier to find their choice of wine for the evening based on their preference of taste. Coco's has a selection of 160 wines in their lovely cellar, of which 25 are imported directly. You will find all the popular names there - but its almost a shame to drink an AALTO at Coco's when there are so many new wines to discover. So I recommend to use the opportunity of the personal tour with the sommelier to discover a new wine.
lively but sophisticated - so be sure to make a reservation. Romantic summer garden location - cozy, friendly and honest.
Private Dining is offered for groups of 8 to 16 persons in the beautiful Wine Cellar. With complete privacy and the possibility to play your own music its really a perfect experience for small celebrations or simply special nights with friends.
WHO goes to COCO - Foodies & Wine lovers, people who are not picky eaters, open minded when it comes to food & who prefer an uncomplicated and casual dining atmosphere to stiffly starched white tablecloths and gigantic white plates with white gloved butlers. People who don't mind to spend money on eating out - the complete 5 course Menu's at Coco's tags around 100 per person. Its really perfect for those who feel that a good piece of meat and a bottle of wine is simply a substantial part of eating dinner - for those people the value deal at Coco's is fantastic. Those who like to have a risotto, no starter and a glass of wine - Coco's is probably not the ideal place! If you go there - be prepared for the full programm!
WHEN to go - I go to COCO's for special occasions, like my birthday or when I have a friend from abroad in town visiting. COCO's is definately also a good place to go on a date or to celebrate an anniversary.
Dinner at COCO's is not just dinner - its an experience!
In its 9 year existence - Coco's has already become an Institution for quality food, wine & dining.
Coco's is a place of class sans being pretentious - it is warm, honest and authentic.
Skillfully combining the elements of surprise, taste & quality in a most charming location designed with a lot of passion for nostalgic details. Nothing seems to have been bought at Coco - everything seems to have been collected. Each piece with its own story to tell. Like the spooned lamps - made using the old cutlery from the Dolder.
I look forward to coming back X
